How much of your day do you think about time? We talk about time quite frequently during our day. We’re early, we’re late, we’re on time. No TIME like the present. We’re old, we’re young. We’re young enough to get into the movies for children’s price (not in while), old enough to drink, old enough to vote, old enough to receive an AARP card or Social Security. TIME is on my side, that may be depending on which side you’re on, because let’s not forget-TIME waits for no one. We talk about things taking too long; the movie was too long, the line was too long, the day was too long. The train is late, the flight is late, the doctor is running late. What do we do during these late times? We have to kill TIME! How about the things we miss because the TIME was off? That important meeting, the wave when we’re surfing, or we miss the opportunity to ask someone a question that could change our whole life. Then there’s things that take too little time: you only were able to see a friend for a couple of hours, the summer is too short (maybe)…perhaps you like a different season and summer is too long. A day is too short, your kids grow up too fast, a marriage was too long..or short. You got old too quick. TIME is supposed to heal everything…but it doesn’t heal age. WE ARE ALWAYS THINKING OF TIME. It’s been said that TIMING is everything and that the TIME IS NOW!
I’m not making this time obsession up. I can’t be. There have been tons of songs written about it. The Rolling Stones, “Time Is On My Side”, Jim Croce, “Time In A Bottle”, Cyndi Lauper “Time After Time”, Peter Gabriel “Big Time”, Beatles “Any Time At All”, and “Yesterday”. There are many others. There are books about time…the meaning of time, the speed of time, the travel of time.
A lot of talk about time; seemingly a lot of thought about time. Perhaps a bit of avoidance about time. TIME waits for no one! Oh wait a minute, isn’t that a song? Yes, that’s a Rolling Stones song too. Seems that the Stones give homage to “TIME”. They’re pretty zippy at their present septuagenarian ages, maybe it’s because they respect the NOW. They have a bit of understanding about time. Of course it’s easier to live a huge life when you have more money, but knowing about the precious present will help maintain one’s positivity, and let’s not forget….TIME is money! The Rolling Stones seem to be aware that it won’t last forever; they seem to know that TIME lost is never found again. It’s worth taking some TIME to think about. Don’t put off ’til tomorrow what you can do today. As usual,
I’d love to know your thoughts.
Yes, time waits for no one, and it won’t wait for me
Drink in your summer, gather your corn
The dreams of the night time will vanish by dawn
