How many of you have a list of things you are wanting to do? I’m not talking about a shopping list (lots of things to buy this time of year), or a list that includes “remember to make that dentist appointment because my tooth is really bothering me”, or” I really need to clean this or that’? Don’t get me wrong, these things are all “list worthy”, but I’m talking about your personal goals. If you were to ask yourself right now how much you’ve done to make those personal things happen, what do you think that would be? How much attention to any of these individual goals do you think you would say you’ve given these things? Let’s say you want a new job…lots of people might say they would like a different job. In a cancer survivor’s case, you may be looking for that first job after you’ve finally completed treatment. Maybe you have a friendship or a relationship you’re working to improve.Maybe you’re trying to lose weight. Maybe you’re trying to save money enough to go on an amazing vacation. If you were to give these things that are so important to you a number as to how much effort you’re giving them to make them come true, what would that number be? Would it be a 3, a 5, a 10? If the numbers are high then that tells you something. There is trying and just not completed something. If you see that the numbers are not so high, this also tells you something. In situations like this, what you are really doing is being more committed to something else. If you believe that you are trying to produce a result and haven’t yet, this is an opportunity to look for the reasons behind that trying. To quote Yoda: Try not…DO!!!
